OUR MISSION

Orange Elephant Press is a multimedia imprint that centers disabled and neurodivergent artists, educators, and their allies.

We share our authentic lived experiences through books and other educational materials.

We’re dedicated building a creative community that deepens understanding, challenges misconceptions, amplifies representation, and actively prioritizes access, belonging, and care.

WHY ORANGE ELEPHANT?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “the elephant in the room?” It’s used to describe a glaring issue that no one wants to discuss. On the other hand, the term “white elephant” describes something burdensome, costly, or simply more trouble than it’s worth. Unfortunately, when you are disabled or neurodiverse, sometimes, you feel...

...like an elephant!

Many of the barriers in our community are incredibly obvious, but most people don’t talk about them. Instead, they assume it’ll be an unnecessary hassle, too expensive, or just one more “thing.” Framed as an inconvenience, rather than something that simply – should be.

The thing is, we’ve been here all along. In your neighborhood, the bookstore, the coffee shop… if you get to know us, our history, from our perspective — you’ll learn quickly that we are far from a burden or a blank page.

We are joy. We are creativity. We are technicolor!

We are Orange Elephant Press!
